Acer Monitor

Acer makes some very high-quality flat screen computer monitors. While they are not a leading developer, they have carved out a very solid niche for themselves in producing inexpensive monitors using the best available technology.

In some ways, Acer is to monitors what Celeron is to computer processors. They aren't major developers in the field per se, but they are very good at taking the technology available and packaging it in such a way as to give the consumer what they want without the higher prices that come from having a major research and development department. As a result, if you're looking for a monitor that is very reliable but also inexpensive, Acer monitors are often the best choice. They have monitors in many different sizes and resolutions, suited for anyone's needs.

Focus on Value

Perhaps ironically, because Acer has not been a leader in developing flat screen monitors (they are well-known for their laptops), they are often less expensive than comparable monitors from other companies. In general, an Acer monitor will be 10-15% less expensive than a comparable monitor from another company. This is because you are not paying for the same amount of research that another company might be charging you. On the other hand, monitors from Acer are just a little bit behind other monitors in terms of technology. So, for instance, the refresh rate may not be quite as good, or the monitor may not be quite as bright. However, given that these little things can be difficult to see in the monitor, the cheaper cost may be worth it to many people. Some things, like refresh rate, may not even be visible to the eye.

Great Contrast

Because of Acer's leadership in laptop technology, they do one thing better than any other company: contrast ratios. Whether or not you can read your laptop in the sun is entirely dependent on contrast, and Acer is one of the leaders in contrast technology. They have applied this expertise to their monitors, as well. Their contrast ratios can often be double those of comparably priced monitors from other companies. As a result, if contrast is an issue for you (such as if you have a bright office), an Acer monitor may not only be the least expensive, but also the best monitor. You can't go wrong with that.

CrystalBrite Technology

Also coming out of their leadership in laptops is Acer's CrystalBrite technology. Acer has focussed lately on increasing the brightness of laptops without substantially increasing their expense, and they have been very successful in this. Recently, they applied thie CrystalBrite technology to a number of their flatscreen monitors. So, if brightness is an important issue for you when shopping, look for an Acer monitor with Crystalbrite Technology. Not all monitors have it, and those that do are more expensive than the standard monitor. However, with their focus on contrast and with the addition of Crystalbrite Technology, Acer monitors really are the best available for those with contrast concerns.
